When I read “Sarah’s Key” by
Tatiana de Rosnay, I noticed many symbols and themes in the book. One is the
symbol of the key. The key that Sarah has opens the cupboard to where she left
her brother. It helps Sarah go on and it helps her build strength in the story.
The key symbolizes hope that her brother might still be alive and she will find
him. She looks at it every day and it gives her a boost of energy.
Another theme that I noticed in the
book, “Sarah’s Key” is the relationship between Bertrand and Julia. They are
married and their relationship is confusing. I feel like that they aren’t so
close and they don’t really have feelings for each other. Like when Julia gets
pregnant and Bertrand doesn’t really support her and tells her to have an
abortion. I don’t think that’s right and he should of gave a lot more support
to her because he had a part in this too. Also, Julia has to have a part in
this situation too because she is the one who will need to go through abortion.
It’s in her body not really Bertrand’s. I also feel like she doesn’t really
think about what she think she just does what Bertrand tell her to do.
I liked this book, because it was laid
out very interesting. It was two stories connected to one. I don’t really know
my opinion on this but, I didn’t really like it. I see she tried to do
something different but, I don’t know it was a good experience to read. I like Sarah’s
story better and I would like the book better if it was only her story.
Julia’s story confused me why it
was part of the book. it was totally a different story. The only way it
connected was Julia knowing about Sarah and her story but, I don’t really like
how the two stories connected and had in common.
Overall I love this experience that
had with book clubs and writing blog posts. I’m actually sad that this is my
last blog post L
